Focus School Development Program
Introduction
With its inception in 2008 Community Educational Development Foundation (CEDeF) launched one of its major program titled as ‘Focus School Development Program’. As part of this program CEDeF adopts some already functional schools and provides them with additional input to enrich their ongoing activities and systems. We offer support to community based public schools in the remote areas of the region. We support with infrastructure development, teacher training, curriculum building, and scholarships.
Objectives
Focus School Development Program aims at:
- Providing some selected schools with support in areas like professional development, infrastructural development, system building etc.
- Providing financial assistance to the needy schools
Interventions
Since January 2013, we have helped the Nagar Academy in Chalt area, Shahwali Academy in the Ghulmet area and Faizi Academy in the Asqurdas area. In our intervention period the number of students in the Nagar Academy raised up to 700 Shahwali Academy is 293 and the Faizi Academy is 500. Based on this experience, we look forward to serving other community schools under this program.
In addition to the above multiple professional development sessions were organized for different categories. In these professional development sessions principals, headmasters and teachers of the above three adopted schools as well as other community and government schools participated.
Achievements
- Evaluation of existing staff and induction of new teachers and administrative staff on merit basis.
- Professional development opportunities for teachers, principals and administrative staff.
- An enriched syllabus development in compliance with the national curriculum standards.
- Enrollment increase in the Shahwali Academy from 162 to 293 students.
- Significant improvement in academic performance of students.
